Press release: Civil Rights Groups Meet Challenge of Anti-Immigrant Hate Group

Press release announces a press conference to be held at the end of a two-day meeting of local and national groups in Manhasset, N.Y., July 3, 2001. A list of 17 participating organizations included Brookhaven Citizens for Peaceful Solutions, Catholic Charities, CARECEN, Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives, and the Work Place Project.;The meeting was held as a reaction to the work done by Sachem Quality of Life, which called for the "federal military occupation of Farmingville to expel Mexicans" and blocked the creation of a day labor center.
