The community-based Hempstead Hispanic Civic Association, Inc. (HHCA) formed in 1977 to serve the housing, education and civic needs of the minority community. The HHCA works to develop affordable housing, both for rental and ownership. Besides securing grant funding, the organization raises private capital to finance neighborhood developments. Additionally, the HHCA supports strong neighborhoods and communities through home and mortgage counseling, workshops on tenant and homeowner rights and responsibilities, and aids in the formation of tenant organizations, among other services.
