Close-up of oysters growing on an oyster rack at the Bayville Bridge hatchery

Close-up view of oysters on an oyster rack at the Bayville Bridge experimental shellfish hatchery. Artificially propagated oysters are placed on the specially designed racks to facilitate harvesting later on. The Bayville Bridge facility was established in 1922 with the goal of perfecting a technique for the large scale propagation of oysters. This image was created to record the Conservation Commission's efforts in the Long Island shell fisheries.
