Olga A. Mendez was elected to the 28th Senate District in the New York State Senate in 1978, becoming the first Puerto Rican woman elected to a State Legislature. In April 1995, Mendez coauthored with Assemblyman Hector Diaz a "Separate & Unequal: New York Farmworkers" report.
