A writ of certiorari was obtained by a defendant to remove a case from a lower court into the Supreme Court of Judicature for trial and judgement, or for review after judgment in the lower court. These records include affidavits by which writs of certiorari were applied for; writs, which were Supreme Court orders to lower court judges to return a copy of the pleadings and proceedings in a case to the Supreme Court; and records of pleadings and proceedings.
