Naturalization papers of German immigrant Alexander Rudolph, 1840. The document was filed in the Chancery Court in Rochester, New York. It contained Rudolph's declaration of intent to become a citizen, his oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, notation that he had resided in the U.S. (and specifically in New York) for five years, and his renouncement of allegiance to Germany.
