French Hotel Converted into a Hospital

Room in luxurious hotel on the Champs Elysee, used as British hospital; wounded soldiers and British women. Paris, France.

During wartime, it is not uncommon for large buildings such as schools, homes, and even hotels to be converted into hospitals for the wounded. This practice is useful for medical units in that it allows them to tend to the wounded in adverse circumstances – such as the unavailability of or being a considerable distance from established military hospitals.
