Brazil - Waiwai Chiefs

Brazilian Waiwai chieftains with ornaments on their neck, legs and arms. From a negative of the University Museum in Philadelphia. Both men are wearing loincloths. The man on the left is looking off to his right and holding a knife. The man on the right is holding his neck ornament. The Waiwai created very complex ornamentations and crafted items that incorporated bird feathers and seeds. Tururri seeds were often strung together to weave impressive textured garments such as these loincloths, (1915).
