Lawyer, legislator and civic leader Frank Torres (1928-) represented District Four in The Bronx in the New York State Assembly in 1963-1964, and was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 1986, where he served until 2001. Torres also worked as an administrator for the New York office of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, holding the position of Director of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunities for fifteen years. Honored with the Bartolomé de las Casas Award in 1990,Torres also received the National Bar Association's Wiley T. Branton award in 1991 for his exceptional leadership in crafting law for civil, social and economic justice. Torres' family was named Model Family of the Year in 1983 by Desfile Puertorriqueño. Throughout his career, Torres was a member of numerous associations, including the New York State Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Bronx Black Bar Association and the American Judges Association.
