Bodiam (Sussex County), England

A 14th century castle in Bodiam, Sussex County, England. The castle’s southern and eastern walls are shown. Features of the architecture include machicolated parapets, circular and rectangular towers, and a broad moat with lilly pads. One of the most celebrated castles in England, Bodiam castle was one of the last to be built and originally served as much to highlight the owner’s wealth and prestige as to provide defense against French invaders. The castle was eventually restored after several parts of it had been destroyed during conflicts, (1910).
