Constitution Island

View of Constitution Island on the Hudson River. During the Revolutionary War, an iron chain was stretched across the Hudson River from West Point to Constitution Island to prevent British war ships from passing up the river. The ruins of Ft. Constitution, built in 1775, can still be seen on the island. During the nineteenth century, the island was home to writers Susan and Anna Warner.
