Fort Schoharie & Williams Mon.

Exterior of the Old Stone Fort at Schoharie, New York. On the lawn in front of the church, cannons and cannonballs are displayed. To the right of the church is a cemetery with a monument to David Williams, one of the men who captured British Major John André during the Revolutionary War. Originally erected as the Fountain Town Stone Church in 1772, the building was enclosed by a stockade and converted into a fort in 1777. In 1780, it survived a raid of Tories and Indians led by Sir John Johnson and Mohawk Captain Joseph Brandt. Today, the building is used as a museum.
