Map of Lake Ontario or Cataraqui, ca. 1800

Hand colored map with points around the lake labeled in French. Two small inset maps show details of Fort Cataracoui and Fort Niagara. Circa 1800. Original map size 16.5” x 21.25”.

[The given date of ca. 1800 is incorrect. The map is unquestionably of French origin, which means that it must predate 1759/1760 when Quebec and Montreal fell to British forces at the end of the French Indian War. Stylistic details as well as historical context indicate a date of ca. 1750-1760.]
