Liberation of Elk in the Adirondacks

View of four men releasing an elk (Cervus elaphus) cow from a horse-drawn wagon into the Adirondack Mountains. Several people are watching this from the side. Elk were exterminated in New York State by around 1850, but there were attempts to reintroduce them into the Adirondacks from 1900 to 1946. The wagon and the people's clothing suggest that the date is ca. 1900-1920. This image was created to record the game-related activities of the New York State Forest, Fish and Game Commission or Conservation Commission.
