[Aerial photograph, flying northwest along west side of lower Manhattan, 09/15/2001]

Aerial photograph, no. 6 in a sequence, taken by plane flying across lower Manhattan northwest along west side of lower Manhattan a few days after the September 11 terrorist attack upon the World Trade Center, on September 15, 2001. On this date, parts of the site were still on fire.

The northernmost section of the World Trade Center site is visible at bottom. Note the almost complete absence of traffic below Chambers Street, which runs across Manhattan immediately below Washington Market Park at top left: for months after the attack, access to the site and its environs was limited to emergency personnel.
