Painting by the ornithological artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes (1874-1927) depicting hawks that supposedly aid conservation efforts. From top left they are: Red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), Red-shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus), Broad-winged hawk (Buteo platypterus), Marsh hawk (a.k.a. Northern harrier, Circus cyaneus), Sparrow hawk (a.k.a. American kestrel, Falco sparverius), and an unidentified hawk. For each species an adult and a juvenile are depicted. This image was created to record the game bird activities of the New York State Conservation Commission.
