Map showing the Erie Canal in Lock 74, Section 24

Map includes a sketch of surveyors beset by snakes.  A surveyor – possibly a self-portrait of David Vaughan - with a theodolite is labelled, "2nd Assistant. The material of a first rate engineer." His companion is hopping on a tree stump and saying "Snakes! Snakes! Mr. Van."

The map is labeled page 63.
