Demolition of "Third Avenue El" elevated train that served the Bronx from 1886-1955 with onlookers, Bronx, NY, ca. 1955. The Third Avenue El was the last elevated railway in Manhattan and the Bronx. Its demolition left Manhattan's East Side residents with the IRT Lexington Avenue as the only subway service line east of Fifth Avenue.
