Chubb Hill

Tour group walks amidst the trees at the Chubb Hill Forest Preserve in Essex County. The State had been offering such conservation reforestation tours since 1924 in order to educate the public about the importance of conservation. In 1927, the trees at the preserve were thinned for the first time and the scars from the branch removal are clearly visible on the trunks. This image was created to record the reforestation efforts of the New York State Conservation Department.
