Bedrock with Stromatolites at Saratoga Springs

View of numerous stromatolites in limestone dating from the Cambrian Period, either on the New York State Reservation (now Saratoga Springs State Park) or at the Petrified Sea Gardens, both near Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County. (Stromatolites: stony structures formed by colonies of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). Cambrian Period: the span of the Earth's history from about 540 to 505 million years ago.) The date is unrecorded, but is likely August 1918. This image was created to record the Saratoga-related activities of the New York State Conservation Commission.
