This certificate welcomes Major Moses Ashley to the ranks of the Society of Cincinnati. The Society was the creation of George Washington and Henry Knox, both of whose signatures are on the certificate, to provide ongoing fellowship among the veterans of the Continental Army. Ashley was one of the original members, having served in Massachusetts for most of the war. This image was created to record the historic site activities of the New York State Conservation Department.
