New York City Hearings – April 19, 1972 (Afternoon). Recording continues Steven Rosenfeld's examination of Charles Ray Carpenter, an inmate at Attica. Follow-up questions asked by Commission members McKay, Wilbanks, Rothschild, Guerrero, Henix, Rossbacher, and General Counsel Arthur Liman. Carpenter makes a final statement and is dismissed. Liman examines Clarence Jones, the editor and publisher of the New Amsterdam News who was part of the Observers' Committee during the Attica uprising. He discusses his experiences during negotiations, inmate demands, and role of the Observers.
