World War II - Peter Paper Eater Photo

Newspapers collected by female volunteers for the New York State War Council's Salvage Division in 1943 being weighed on the scale called "Peter Paper Eater." Paper was recycled during World War II due to a decrease in imports and a growing need for materials for the war.
