Brochure, Esperanza/Hope -- Your chance to stay in the US

Three page brochure sponsored by Catholic Charities Diocese of Rockville Center and United Way of Nassau Suffolk offering information for undocumented immigrants in New York City after the Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA) of 1986. The IRCA law offered a one-time amnesty for illegal immigrants who had been continuously in the United States since 1982, in return for the imposition of sanctions on employers who knowingly hired undocumented workers.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986 and the Immigration Act of 1990 had a far-reaching impact on Latino and other Caribbean immigrants in New York State. The main goal of IRCA was to control and deter illegal immigration to the United States. The law included sanctions for employers who knowingly hired undocumented workers, increased enforcement at US borders, and allowed legalization of some immigrants who had resided in the US continuously since 1982.
