Dutch colonial council minutes, 2-8 May 1645

Court proceedings. Adam Brouwer vs. Hendrick Jansen, blacksmith, on the purchase of a house ; plaintiff demands delivery of the deed ; defendant does not object, provided plaintiff promise to pay the account delivered ; ordered, that the deed be delivered to defendant, with a clause mortgaging the premises for the amount of the debt. Gysbert Opdyck vs. Teunis Cray's wife, slander ; defendant ordered to prove her words. Gysbert de Leuw vs. Johan de Fries, slander ; proof ordered. Fiscal vs. Cornelis Melyn, for payment of hides confiscated in the ship St. Peter ; defendant acknowledges correctness of the account, but declines payment ; judgment for plaintiff, and execution ordered ; in case defendant is not sufficient, his securities are to be looked to. [1645]

Minute. That on the firing a salute on the 22d April, in honor of the peace concluded with the Indians, Jacob Jacobsen Roy, the gunner, was badly wounded in his right arm by the bursting of a brass six-pounder. [1645]
