Dutch colonial council minutes, 21-27 July 1645

Minute of council. Governor La Tour having sent seven soldiers, the remainder of his force, to New Amsterdam, it is resolved to take them into the Dutch service, as the director intends to send and explore the mines, and forty discharged soldiers are returning to Holland in the hope of a peace, which is not yet concluded. [1645]

Court proceedings. Jan de Fries vs. Gysbert de Leuw, slander ; both parties are ordered not to give offense to each other, on pain of being cashiered and loss of their pay. Jacob Roy vs. Symon Groot, boatswain of the Prince Maurice, for purchase of plaintiff's house ; judgment for plaintiff. Richard Smith vs. John Wilcox, for violation of contract in having traded at Sloop's bay ; referred to Isaac Allerton and Arent Corsen Stam for arbitration. Symon Dirckson Pos declares in court that the council of the colonie Renselaerswyck is a false council. Adriaen van der Donck's bill for loss of time and expenses is taxed at 70 days at 4 guilders a day, and 20 guilders for writing done in the colonie Renselaerswyck. [1645]
