Cilicia, Asia Minor

Asia Minor, Cilicia. A view of the south through the Cilician Gates. The Korkun-su River and a road with a horse-drawn cart can be seen in the foreground. Cables are visible on the side of the mountain to the left. Cilicia is the ancient name for the southern region of Turkey, and the Cilician Gates connect this region to Cappadocia, a plain to the north, through the Taurus Mountains. The Cilician Gates were used by both Alexander the Great and the first Crusaders when they invaded Asia Minor, (1909).
