View west from Mount Beacon on the Hudson River near Beacon, New York. Fields, trees, and homes occupy the flood plain between the mountain and the river. Across the river is the town of Newburgh. During the Revolutionary War, militia were directed to light fires on Mt. Beacon if British were spotted advancing up the Hudson River.
