New York City. Van Cortlandt Mansion. Kitchen.

Interior view of kitchen in the Van Cortlandt Mansion in New York City. Chairs flank a large fireplace. Utensils lie on and hang from the mantle. To the right of the fireplace, a china cabinet has open doors displaying a collection of fine dishes. On the far right, a table is set with teapots and other dishes. Above, a low, beamed ceiling gives the room a cozy atmosphere. The mansion, home to the prominent Van Cortlandt family, was built 1748. It opened as the first house museum in New York City in 1897.
