Elk

View of an elk (Cervus elaphus) cow in a forest in winter. The location is somewhere in the Adirondack Mountains, ca. 1900-1920. Elk were exterminated in New York State by around 1850, but there were attempts to reintroduce them into the Adirondacks from 1900 to 1946. This image was created to record the game activities of the New York State Forest, Fish and Game Commission or Conservation Commission.
