Aerial photograph, no. 2 in a sequence, taken by plane flying across lower Manhattan northwest along west side of lower Manhattan a few days after the September 11 terrorist attack upon the World Trade Center, on September 15, 2001. On this date, parts of the site were still on fire.

The Battery Park City neighborhood is at left. Most of its residents were forced to seek shelter elsewhere for several days after the attack, and authorities placed strict limits on vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
