Aerial photograph, no. 8 in a sequence, taken by plane flying across lower Manhattan northwest along west side of lower Manhattan a few days after the September 11 terrorist attack upon the World Trade Center, on September 15, 2001. On this date, parts of the site were still on fire.

TriBeCa. As of 15 September, most of the neighborhood lacked electric power and landline telephone service as a result of the attack. Many residents were displaced for several days afterward.

The roundabout at top center is actually the end of the Holland Tunnel's exit ramp. Note the absence of traffic: immediately after the attack, only emergency vehicles were permitted to enter Manhattan via the tunnel.
