This photograph was used for investigative purposes by the Rapp-Coudert Committee, which aimed to remove Communist "subversion" in the public schools and municipal colleges of NYC. As a result of this committee, several teachers and other school faculty members were terminated for their association (or perceived association) with the Communist Party.

In this photo, a large group of men and women are seen carrying signs and marching down Eighth Ave. in New York City. Some of the signs read: "Stop Firing Teachers," "Coudert Smears the Schools, LaGuardia Slashes Them" and "The Bill of Rights For Teachers Too."
