MacKaye Castle in Buffalo, New York. October 24, 1937

Photograph of MacKaye Castle, also known as Fort Porter. MacKaye Castle was built between 1841 and 1844 in Buffalo. It was originally named for General Peter Buell Porter. The Castle served as a home to attorney and abolitionist James MacKaye and his family, most notably the actor and playwright Steel MacKaye.
