Hat factory: scalding room, felt hat making

Workmen who complete the first process in felt hat making pause from work to pose in interior of the scalding room at the Waring Hat Manufacturing Co. in Yonkers, New York. Most of the men standing at work tables and machinery wear protective aprons. Steam rises from the work tables. Pipes with valves descend from the ceiling. As well as excessive heat and humidity, the investigator noted defective and dangerous flooring in this room. The same room appears in image NYSA_A3029-78_B4_F1, "Hat factory: scalding room, no. 1."
