Erie Canal Survey, Root showing Leonardson’s Creek and Road to Fultonville

This is an ink, wash and charcoal map of a section of the Erie Canal in Root. The map is split into two views. The first view shows the Mohawk River, Leonardson’s Creek which runs under a canal aqueduct and into the river, an area called Little Nose, two bridges, seven buildings and the Road to Fultonville. The second view shows the Mohawk River, two bridges, sixteen buildings and the Road to Fultonville. The red lines indicate courses and distances. The blue lines indicate canal right-of-way. The map also shows the properties of John L. Yates, J.P. Yates, Widow Van Schaick, Isaiah Depuy and the Estate of A. Leonardson.
