This antique well, complete with oaken bucket, sits in the back of the Herkimer Home in Little Falls, NY. The most famous member of the family was Nicholas Herkimer, a Revolutionary War General who was able to hold off British forces after being ambushed at the battle of Oriskany but died from wounds received. The Herkimer Home was built by Nicholas in 1764 and stayed in the family until 1814, only passing to the state in 1913.
