Fire set by CCC boys from crew in old barn foundation

Charred wood is all that remains of this old barn, clearing the way for reforestation work by the Civilian Conservation Crops. This is the work of CCC camp S-126, located near Centerville, N.Y. from 1935-1941. During this period, the Forest Service would purchase abandoned farmland like this, and the CCC, "Roosevelt's Tree Army," would clear and reforest it. This image was created to record the reforestation work of the Civilian Conservation Corps under the supervision of the New York State Conservation Department.
