Spillway at Palmer Pond, West Almond, N.Y.

This layer of stone is the overflow spillway built for the expanded Palmer Pond by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Stones used in this fashion to prevent erosion are called "rip-rap." CCC camp S-92, stationed in Almond, has been damming and expanding the pond for recreational use. This image was created to record the reforestation work of the Civilian Conservation Corps under the supervision of the New York State Conservation Department.
