Unused land with sweet fern, Schuyler County

This plot of land, possibly an abandoned field, is carpeted with the low ground cover called sweet fern or fern bush (Comptonia peregrina). This is a problem for the Civilian Conservation Corps assigned to reforest the area. Sweet fern is known to harbor various pests which attack the young pines which the CCC favors for its reforestation projects. This image was created to record the reforestation work of the Civilian Conservation Corps under the supervision of the New York State Conservation Department.
