River Log Drivers, Tents & Kitchen Car

Group of lumbermen posing with peaveys, (long lever with spike and hook, for handling logs, especially when driving), front of tents and a small rail car used as a mobile kitchen, at a lumber camp in the Adirondack Mountains. A duplicate of this image can be found in New York State Archives, Division of Visual Instruction, Instructional Lantern Slides (Pre-1911), A3045, box 2, no. 1662.

This image has been identified as the work of Florence A. Van Sant, a photographer who was active in the Adirondacks from 1898-1902.
