Governor Hugh L. Carey speaking at the Women's Conference on the Empire State Plaza. During his speech he remarked, "You’ve done great things for yourself, and you’ll do more." Carey pledged his support for the Equal Rights Amendment.

7,000 women attended the conference. There were workshops on consumerism, education, health care, peace and creativity, as well as a workshop on self-assertion.
